Waffle fry farewell? Chick-fil-A responds to rumors that it's replacing its famous fries

A fake news fiasco involving Chick-fil-A’s waffle fries has recently sparked a frenzy among fans. The rumor began when a TikTok video by user @bri.daniela1 claimed that the popular chain would be discontinuing its waffle fries. The video, which was viewed over 3 million times before being deleted, featured the user pretending to be a Chick-fil-A employee with insider information.

The TikToker later posted a follow-up video clarifying that the initial claim was false and that she hadn’t anticipated the viral reaction. This second video was also deleted.

Another TikToker, @imjusmike, further fueled the rumor by posting a video with the claim, “So it’s true Chick-fil-A stop (sic) selling waffle fries.” This video garnered 1 million views and added to the confusion.

As is often the case with internet rumors, misinformation spread faster than the truth, contributing to the waffle fry fiasco.

Waffle fry farewell?

The false fry news gained even more traction on Wednesday when @snackbetch, a popular Instagram account known for updates on fast food, treats, snacks, and sweets, posted about “Chick-fil-A french fries.” This further amplified the confusion and spread of misinformation.

In it, a photo of straight-cut fries appears with the text “NEW!! Chick-fil-A french fries” and the caption, “Do you want to see these go nationwide? I kind of like the idea of having another fry option besides their waffle-cut fries.”

Chick-fil-A responds

Chick-fil-A officially dispelled the rumors in a statement to USA TODAY, affirming, “Chick-fil-A Guests do not need to worry—our much-loved Waffle Fries are not going anywhere!”

Additionally, Little Blue Menu, a side project of Chick-fil-A, addressed the concerns on its own Instagram page in response to posts about the fries.

Little Blue Menu clarified the situation with a comment on Instagram: “Don’t worry—Chick-fil-A Waffle Fries aren’t going anywhere! These French Fries are only available at Little Blue Menu in College Park, MD. That’s the fun of our Little Blue Menu restaurant—guests can enjoy Chick-fil-A classics alongside our Little Blue Menu exclusives, like French Fries, Sweet Potato Tots, and Onion Rings!”
